Sharing a workstation no longer means sharing your work

  • Your projects, bills, rates, documents and drafts are stored in this browser. Until now they were stored in one place for the whole browser, so on a shared machine the next person to sign in saw whatever the last person had been working on.
  • The device now keeps one set per account. Signing in as someone else puts the previous person’s work aside under their own name and brings back yours if you have used this machine before.
  • Nothing is deleted at any point. Your colleague’s work is kept and comes back the moment they sign in again, and so does yours.
  • Signing out still leaves your work on the device, which is unchanged: it is your machine and your draft until someone else signs in.

Insert a whole bill structure, not just one section

  • Practice templates now come in four kinds. A section is one subsection of measured lines, as before. A package is several sections that are always measured together. A starter bill is a whole standard structure for a type of job. A frame is that same structure with no quantities and no rates at all.
  • A frame exists because the other three are dangerous as a starting point: a starter bill inserted into a new job arrives priced from whatever project it was captured on, and a priced bill nobody measured looks exactly like one somebody did. A frame is a checklist of what to measure, and it carries no figures either on screen or in storage.
  • Three suggested frames are supplied with QuantifyQS (a domestic extension, a substructure package and an internal fit-out). They are labelled as suggestions rather than as a standard: the NRM2 codes and section names are the standard’s, the item lines are ours.
  • Save the current canvas as a package, a starter bill or a frame, so a practice can reuse its own standards rather than only the supplied ones.
  • However many sections a template inserts, it is one confirmation stating exactly what will happen and what it does to the bill total, and one undo to take all of it back.

Take a bill quantity straight from a takeoff measurement

  • Measure an area, length or count on a drawing, then take that figure into the selected bill line from the canvas Drawings panel. The line records which measurement it came from, on which drawing, which page and which revision, so the bill and the takeoff can be checked against each other later instead of drifting apart.
  • It refuses rather than guesses: a page with no scale set has no quantity to give, a measurement in m2 cannot become the quantity of an item measured in m3, and a shape that measures zero or too small to carry is a drawing fault rather than a bill decision. Each refusal says which one it is.
  • Taking a measurement from a superseded drawing revision asks first and names both revisions, and changing a quantity a line already carries asks before it changes it. Both are recorded in the change log.
  • Any document can be linked as evidence for a bill line from the same panel, including specifications and other files that cannot be placed on the canvas as an image. A link whose document is later removed from the register shows as removed rather than looking live.

Check a rate against your own comparable rates before you apply it

  • Every rate in the canvas Rates panel now has a Compare control. It shows the comparable rates in your library, where this one sits among them, and how far apart they are.
  • Comparison never crosses units. Per m3 next to per m2 produces a spread that means nothing, so rates measured differently are excluded rather than ranked lower.
  • Where there are too few comparable rates for a median to mean anything, it says so and lists them instead of computing one.
  • The qualifications sit with the numbers, not behind them: mixed sources, price dates years apart or years old, rates past their review date, and the tender adjustment every figure is shown at.

The BoQ canvas insert drawer now reaches every library

  • Saved assemblies can be inserted straight onto the canvas. Pick the work section, pick the package, and its measured lines arrive as one undoable step, keeping their commercial type so a credit stays a credit and a provisional sum keeps its lump sum. Each line carries a link back to the assembly it came from.
  • Project History brings ONE section back from an earlier version of the bill. Recovering a section deleted four versions ago no longer means rolling the whole canvas back and losing everything done since.
  • The governed RICS knowledge library is searchable from the canvas, and a passage can be cited as a note beside your measurement. It is reference only by design: it cites sources and never writes bill wording.
  • Where a package or a recovered section cannot be classified without guessing, it now says so and asks you to choose, rather than filing it under a plausible-looking section it was never priced against.

Cloud uploads show progress and can be cancelled

  • Uploading a document to cloud storage now shows a live progress bar with a percentage instead of a plain "Uploading" label, so you can see a large drawing actually moving.
  • A Cancel button stops an upload in flight and releases the space it had reserved, and if an upload fails or is cancelled a Retry button re-sends the same file without re-picking it.

Deleting many canvas items at once asks first

  • Removing a large selection on the BoQ canvas (Delete key, the command palette, or the toolbar bin) now confirms how many items will go before it does it, so a stray key press or box-select can no longer wipe a section by accident. Small deletes stay instant, and either way a single undo brings it all back.

A deleted project keeps a named, read-only change register

  • A deleted project that still has variations keeps its change register reachable as evidence, now labelled with the project name (and marked deleted) instead of a cryptic id, so it is readable during a dispute.
  • That register is read-only: you cannot raise, edit, delete, transition or apply-to-bill a change against a deleted project (the raise and drawer actions are hidden and the store refuses regardless), with a clear notice explaining why. Restore the project to continue. Discussion comments stay open.

Opening a deleted project shows an honest restore screen

  • Following an out-of-date link to a project you have deleted now shows a clear "Project deleted" screen with when it was removed and a Restore button (for roles that manage projects), rather than quietly opening the full editable workspace on a record that is in the trash.

Full-screen bill overview

  • The canvas Overview (minimap) now opens full screen from its own button, distinct from the compact/large size toggle, so you can read a large bill at a glance and click any point to jump the canvas there. Escape or the close button exits and returns you exactly where you were; it is a momentary view, not a saved setting.

Move a local sandbox canvas into a project

  • A drawing you worked up in the local sandbox can now be moved straight into a project in one step, instead of rebuilding it there. The move is confirmed first, opens the project on its new canvas, and is recorded in the change history so the origin is clear.
  • It is safe by design: the move only ever lands in a project that has no canvas yet, so it never overwrites existing work, and if this browser blocks local storage the sandbox is left exactly as it was.

Saved Assemblies: reuse a build-up across projects, with provenance

  • The NRM2 Reference is now a two-panel browser on desktop: the 41 work sections in a compact list beside a sticky reader showing the full rules, units and examples, with every entry a copyable link. On mobile it stays the single-column accordion.
  • Every library insertion on the canvas is now ONE undo step: an item added from the Rate Library arrives with its section link and a single Ctrl+Z removes both together (previously the first undo stripped only the link and left an orphaned line), and an NRM2 palette insert (section plus its blank starter line) undoes as one action too.
  • Templates and assemblies can now be shared with the whole organisation by workspace admins: shared entries carry an Org marker, anyone who can edit a bill can insert them, but renaming, deleting or unsharing an organisation entry is reserved for admins and fails closed everywhere.
  • A bill subsection you measure repeatedly (a cavity-wall build-up, a drainage run) can now be saved as a named Assembly and inserted into ANY project as a new subsection in one step.
  • Every inserted line is its own record with brand-new ids, and every line carries a reference back to the assembly and the project it was originally captured on, shown on the bill row. Edits to the copy never touch the assembly, and the provenance survives re-pricing, re-measuring and the canvas round trip.
  • Assemblies capture the measurement skeleton only: descriptions, units, quantities, rates and commercial types. Totals recompute in the receiving bill; takeoff links and change-control history never cross the project boundary.

Cite governed library sources on your commercial records

  • A Knowledge Library excerpt can now be attached as a cited source to a variation, an early warning, a cost report or a canvas note: pick the record on the result card and the citation appears on that record with its source link, pages, who cited it and when.
  • Each attachment is a frozen snapshot including the cited passage itself, so the evidence stays checkable at dispute time even if the source file later becomes unavailable. Citations remain supporting evidence, never a substitute for professional judgement.
  • The register is tidy by design: duplicates are refused, purging a project sweeps its citations, and deleting a variation or early warning removes its citations with it.

NRM2 starter templates for common project types

  • A new residential extension, new build dwelling, commercial fit-out, refurbishment or industrial unit can now start from a curated NRM2 skeleton: the typical elemental groups and work-section packages for that project type, laid out in one click from the empty bill.
  • Starters are honest scaffolding: every line carries a real description and the correct NRM2 unit, but quantities and rates are ZERO by design. The QS measures; a template never invents a figure, so each line stays flagged until it is genuinely measured and priced.
  • Applying a starter is one undoable step with one audit-trail line, only ever offered on an empty bill, and every code and unit in the curation is pinned to the same NRM2 catalogue the reference page uses.

Every project declares its NRM2 measurement basis

  • Projects now record which NRM2 reference they are measured against (currently NRM2 2nd Edition, 2021), stamped automatically at creation and shown on the project page. Exported bill documents declare it: "Measured in accordance with NRM2 2nd Edition (2021)", or state honestly that no reference is recorded.
  • Projects created before tracking existed are surfaced on the Projects page with a one-click, audited "Record" action; a project stamped with a DIFFERENT reference than the software currently implements is flagged for review with an explicit, confirmed Re-base action. Every stamp and re-base writes a project audit row (who, when, from what).
  • Line items are also validated against their section: a unit outside the section’s typical NRM2 units is flagged on the item and in the editor, and can be kept only with a recorded justification scoped to exactly that unit and section. Changing the unit retires the justification, through every route that can change a unit.

Ask the record: cross-register commercial search

  • The Audit Trail search now answers dispute-time questions across every register at once: "who approved the staircase variation" returns the approver, date and the evidence on file; "every instruction affecting X" lists the instruction references and who gave them.
  • "Which drawing revision caused this increase" traces takeoff-sourced quantities back to their drawing and revision, and "what changed between report 2 and 4" computes penny-exact movement from the frozen issued figures.
  • "Show variations missing evidence" flags every variation with no evidence reference and no gate evidence. Every answer is a real register record with a link to its home: nothing is generated, summarised or guessed.

Takeoff quantities remember their drawing revision, and warn when it moves

  • Every takeoff measurement and every bill quantity pushed from one now records the drawing revision it was measured from. The bill line shows its measured-from reference (drawing, revision, page) and the audit trail records who set the quantity, from which drawing and which revision.
  • Revise a drawing and the consequences are visible everywhere: a re-measure chip on the Documents register, an alert and amber-ringed measurement markers in the drawing viewer, and a warning on the bill line itself ("measured from rev A; now rev B - re-measure"). Nothing goes silently stale.
  • Measurements and pushes made before revision stamping existed read honestly as "revision unverified" rather than pretending to be current, and editing an item for an unrelated reason preserves the original measured-from revision instead of quietly re-stamping it.
  • The Canvas also gained a project-first entry: /canvas now opens onto your projects (bill size, total and agreed baseline shown per project) with the local sandbox as a clearly-labelled secondary mode for testing and diagrams, and a linked canvas that drifts from its bill states the difference in pounds and offers Apply to Bill directly.

The whole NRM2 library in the Canvas, and a proper inspector

  • The Canvas insert panel now carries all 41 NRM2 work sections, not a shortlist of 8. It reads from exactly the same dataset as the NRM2 Reference page, so a code, name, unit or measurement rule can never mean two different things in two places. Search spans section numbers, names, units, element groups and worked example descriptions, and filters narrow it to an element group, your favourites, what you have used recently, or what this bill has not used yet.
  • The insert panel is now a proper drawer: NRM2, Browse, Rates, Drawings and Templates. Apply a rate to the selected item or add a new measured item from it, place a project drawing on the canvas, or insert a saved practice template as a complete work section in one undoable step.
  • Properties and Totals is rebuilt as one structured inspector instead of two panes stacked in a column. Every area collapses (selected object, project totals, element group breakdown, preliminaries and contingency, quick scenarios), each header carries its live figure, the panel remembers what you left open, and there is one scroll bar instead of three. Preliminaries and contingency now take typed percentages as well as the sliders, and the Grand Total is pinned once at the foot of the panel.
  • The Canvas now fills the window. The grey dead band beneath the status bar is gone, the Overview map fills its own panel in every size (the white rectangle beside it was bare panel, not part of the map), and the cookie notice no longer parks itself on top of the Overview and Output buttons.

BoQ Canvas workspace overhaul: eraser, smarter camera, custom dropdowns

  • The drawing toolbar grew up: an eraser that rubs out exactly the ink under the pointer, a highlighter preset, a colour wheel for any stroke colour, named colour tooltips with a visible tick on the current one, and a Clear menu (drawing layer or whole canvas) that always confirms and is always undoable. The toolbar remembers where you moved it.
  • The camera behaves: Fit Bill centres a bill that fits on screen instead of pinning it to the top, Zoom 100% recentres on the bill, holding Space pans in every mode, and new sections, notes, frames and images now appear inside your current view, selected and ready to edit, never off-screen.
  • Grabbing a node now selects it (a click with a few pixels of movement used to move it without ever opening its properties), the Overview map gained a legend, a clearly outlined view window and bigger controls, and a new status-bar chip finds objects stranded far from the bill with a one-click gather command in the View menu.
  • One save status instead of four, a Save button that says Saving, Saved or Save now, dark themed dropdowns everywhere (the white browser panels are gone), quieter scrollbars, and app motion is now on for everyone with the Settings accessibility toggle as the single switch that calms it.

A governed RICS and QS source library in the workspace

  • Staff can now search the governed knowledge library from the signed-in workspace and receive bounded source excerpts with document, section and page citations.
  • The search is reference-only: it does not write an answer, recommendation or report. Every result states its professional review, branded-output licence and assessment-submission restrictions where applicable.
  • The server enforces the staff permission, organisation isolation, request rate limit and an audit query ID. Source links allow only ordinary HTTP or HTTPS destinations.
  • Model-assisted cited answers and professional report issue remain in development under the rule that AI assists and the surveyor authors.

A storage warning before you hit the limit

  • As your files approach the 10 GB early access allowance, a clear banner now appears on every page so you can free space before a save is ever refused. It sits ahead of the existing alert that fires the moment a write actually fails, so a commercial record never stops saving silently.
  • The warning escalates as usage climbs and can be dismissed once seen; it returns if things get worse or after a reload. The prompt is to free space and review your largest files (billing is not live during invite-only early access, so there is nothing to buy).

Plans and pricing: a properly differentiated tier system

  • The five plans (Free Trial, Solo, Practice, Firm, Enterprise) now read from one authoritative tier catalog: price, project and seat limits, storage, AI allowance and the features each plan unlocks all come from a single source, so the pricing page and the app can never disagree.
  • The pricing page is rebuilt from that catalog: a full comparison grouped by what each plan adds, with roadmap capabilities marked "Soon" rather than shown as delivered, and a monthly or annual toggle.
  • In the app the plan is visible where it matters: a project cap with an honest upgrade prompt, and the Practice-and-up features (cost indices, subcontract comparison, early warnings) invite an upgrade on lower plans, with a Compare plans view wherever you meet a limit.
  • Pricing applies from general availability and nothing is billed during invite-only early access, where every user has full access. Live checkout and per-organisation billing enforcement arrive with the cloud release.

NEC early warning register

  • A new Early Warnings page gives the practice an NEC clause 15 register: raise a warning for any matter that could affect price, time or quality, tag which of the three, and assign an owner.
  • Drive each warning down through a risk-reduction meeting log as its status moves from open to on the agenda, mitigated or closed. The register summarises the live count, what is on the agenda, and how many warnings touch price and time.
  • It is an internal commercial register, shown only to the practice roles, with every change failing closed for read-only roles. It sits alongside the live compensation-event register (variations).

Subcontractor quote comparison

  • A new Subcontractors page lets the practice put a package of work out to several subcontractors, log each quote, and compare them against the pre-tender estimate and against each other.
  • Each quote shows its variance to the estimate (money and percent) and to the lowest bid; the lowest is flagged, and the package summarises the spread and the saving against the estimate. You record a recommendation for award.
  • It is an internal commercial surface, shown only to the practice roles, with every change failing closed for read-only roles. Aligning quotes line by line against the bill is on the roadmap.

Quick Templates: reuse a bill section across projects

  • Save any subsection of a bill as a named template from the editor, then insert it as a new subsection in this or another project.
  • A template captures only the measurement skeleton (each line’s description, unit, quantity, rate and type). It deliberately drops the source project’s totals, takeoff links and change history, so inserting one never carries a stale figure: the receiving bill recomputes every total from scratch.
  • Templates live in a per-device library you can rename and delete, and inserting one is a single undo step on the bill’s audit trail. Insertion runs through the same edit gate as the rest of the bill, so it fails closed for read-only roles and refuses a locked bill.

A Getting Started guide on your dashboard

  • New practices now land on a Getting Started card that tracks the four first-run milestones: create a project, build a bill, log a variation, export a document.
  • Each step is derived from your real workspace rather than a stored checklist, so the progress is always honest: delete the last project and the step un-ticks. Every outstanding step links straight to where the work is done.
  • The card is a per-device preference: it shows only to the roles that set up work, and you can dismiss it once you are up and running.

Accessibility: a personal high-contrast mode

  • Settings > Accessibility now has a third personal toggle, saved on your device: high contrast, alongside larger text and reduced motion.
  • It strengthens the deliberately-soft chrome, borders, muted and secondary text, and gives the keyboard focus a thicker, always-visible ring, in both light and dark, so edges and the focus point are easier to pick out.
  • It is a per-device preference with no admin gate, and it sits on top of the keyboard navigation, ARIA labels and focus management already built throughout the app.

Dark mode: buttons, badges and chips now meet WCAG AA contrast

  • Solid brand, success, error and warning fills now keep a fixed darker tone in dark mode, so white button and badge text stays at or above the 4.5:1 AA contrast ratio instead of washing out against the lighter accent used for text.
  • Purple-on-white call-to-action buttons and the featured pricing badge switch to the solid brand tone for their text, so they read clearly in both light and dark.
  • Verified with axe-core across every marketing page in both themes: zero serious or critical colour-contrast findings.

Cost indices: rebase over ONS COPI with a bulk paste

  • The Cost Data workbench rebases any amount between two index periods, penny-safe, over series you maintain.
  • Bring the public ONS Construction Output Price Indices in by pasting a whole column from the official dataset: every period and value is recognised and previewed before it is added.
  • ONS publishes a spreadsheet, not an API, so figures come from your paste of the official source, with a direct link to it. The platform never invents an index value.

Bulk operations on the Bill of Quantities canvas

  • Select many bill lines on the canvas and change them at once: a blanket percentage on the rate, a new unit, or one library rate across the selection, penny-safe with a money-impact preview.
  • One undo step covers the whole batch, and issued (locked) lines are protected: a bulk value edit skips them rather than silently changing an approved figure.
  • Every change is role-gated (boq.edit) and recorded per line for the audit trail.

Project evidence extraction and governed citation search

  • The secure backend can now extract supported project files from cloud storage into searchable evidence while preserving page, sheet, slide or section provenance.
  • Every extraction begins in quarantine. A project manager must review it before project citation search can retrieve it, and uploaded text is always treated as untrusted evidence.
  • Project-party permissions now protect the complete document path: upload, catalogue, download, extraction, preview, review and deletion.

Letterhead templates: save and switch document looks

  • Save your current branding as a named letterhead in Settings, then keep several: a formal client look, a plainer internal one, a different accent per brand.
  • Applying a template writes it straight back through branding, so the live preview and the branded Word, PDF and text exports pick it up at once.
  • Managed by the practice (owner or admin) and saved on your device; each template is a snapshot of the practice name, logo, accent, letterhead lines and footer.

Accessibility mode: larger text and reduced motion

  • Settings now has an Accessibility card with two personal toggles, saved on your device: larger text, which scales the whole interface up, and reduce motion, which turns off animations and transitions across the signed-in app.
  • Reduce motion is the app-level control for animation: QuantifyQS keeps its motion on by default (many devices ship with the OS animation switch off), and this toggle calms all of it in one click.
  • These sit on top of the keyboard navigation, ARIA labels and focus management already built throughout the app.

Rate Library: match a description to a rate

  • Paste a bill-item description on the Rate Library page and get the closest rates from your own library, ranked with a visible match score and shown at your tender-adjusted price.
  • The match is deterministic: token overlap (a Dice coefficient) with a boost when the unit agrees, so a length rate is not offered for an area item. Rule-based and offline, not AI.
  • An AI-assisted ranking and a direct BCIS feed stay on the roadmap; this ships the honest, built version today.

One-click branded PDF

  • Export a bill as a letterheaded PDF in one click: practice logo, accent and letterhead, sectioned tables with section totals, a summary and a page-numbered footer.
  • Generated in the browser with no server round-trip, from the same document model as the Word, CSV and Excel exports, so every output matches.
  • On the bill export menu and logged in the Export Centre; the unpriced scope export omits rates and totals for external roles.

PDF Takeoff: measure on the drawing

  • Open an uploaded PDF drawing in the in-app viewer, calibrate a page scale from a known dimension, and take off lengths, areas and counts directly on screen.
  • Send a measured quantity straight onto a bill line item: the line is set to the measured value and stays live-linked to the drawing and page.
  • The push is unit-guarded, so a length never lands on an area line, and it respects change control: variation-governed lines and locked (issued) bills are protected.
  • Editor-gated and on-device today; it moves to the shared cloud record with document ingestion.

Server API credential foundation

  • The developer panel now uses server-backed API credentials with named scopes, explicit expiry, reveal-once secrets, rotation and revocation.
  • Only a SHA-256 credential hash is stored. Every lifecycle action has an append-only audit event, and bearer authentication fails closed.
  • Firm and Enterprise entitlement plus the organisation API flag are checked on the server, with a tier-aware hourly rate limit.
  • This remains in development until an eligible organisation is provisioned in a configured deployment; the broader public resource API is still on the roadmap.

Durable cloud documents

  • Documents now keep a durable copy in Cloudflare R2 whose current bucket location reports Western Europe (WEUR), not only your browser: upload, list, download and delete from the Storage page.
  • Storage is pooled and quota-enforced per workspace, and every file is isolated to your organisation at the database level.
  • Uploads reserve their space before they start and release it automatically if they fail, so the allowance figure stays honest.
  • On-device documents still work as before; the cloud copy is the shared, durable record. AI reading and cited search of these documents remain on the roadmap.

Accessibility and mobile depth

  • Global search is fully keyboard and screen-reader operable: arrow keys move through results and Enter opens one.
  • Status changes (a variation approved, issued or deleted) are now announced to screen readers.
  • The export menu is keyboard-navigable with proper focus handling, and every table header and control is correctly labelled.
  • Settings is reachable from the navigation for every role, so the analytics-consent control is always one click away.
  • Approving a change with evidence now fits and works on a phone; touch targets across the header and drawers meet the 44px comfort size.
  • Exported CSVs read consistently: human dates and humanised actions, with approved cost shown for approved and issued variations.

Privacy controls and honest positioning

  • Turn analytics on or off whenever you like from Settings; withdrawing consent stops tracking and clears its cookies immediately.
  • Session recording is off: analytics never captures your screen or commercial data.
  • The privacy policy now describes the local-first reality plainly: your records live in your browser, and you can export or erase them yourself at any time.
  • Marketing pages state exactly what is live today and what is on the roadmap, with no overstated data-residency, AI or integration claims.
  • Exported cost reports clearly distinguish a live draft from a frozen, issued statement, in every format and filename.

Reporting and cost-data polish

  • An issued cost report is now truly frozen at line level: it states the position exactly as at its issue date and never changes if the register moves afterwards.
  • The portfolio dashboard totals only live projects, so an unwon tender or a finished job no longer distorts the projected outturn, and the headline figures tie out to the penny.
  • Pending exposure now shows the gross additions and omissions behind the net, so upside risk is not hidden.
  • Importing rates rejects a malformed cell (like 12-15 or 1.2.3) instead of silently storing a wrong number.
  • The cost-index workbench reads any number format, keeps your selected series across reloads, sorts periods, and is edit-locked to the right roles.
  • Clearer, honest cost-data links in place of an integration that is not yet available.

Security and integrity hardening

  • Setting the contract sum and agreeing the baseline are now management-only, so an approving client can never move the contract sum or split it from the project value.
  • Change references are permanently unique: a deleted reference is never reissued, so the audit trail can never show two changes under one number.
  • Open the app in several tabs and they stay in step: a stale tab can no longer overwrite work committed in another.
  • A corrupt or hand-edited local store, or a malformed imported workspace, recovers safely instead of showing a blank screen.

  • The app stays reachable when you reload with no signal: a service worker serves it from the device, and your saved work was always safe.
